13歳でグラフィティの世界に飛び込んだが、それは一般的なヒップホップからではなく、パンクロックカルチャーやスケートボードのジャンルからであった。若い彼にとって、スケートボードは当時大嫌いだったフットボールの精神性から逃れる良い方法だったようだ。
グラフィティに出会った当初は伝統的なアメリカのスタイルに近いものだったが、前衛的な北欧のスタイルに出会い、伝統的なレタリングを放棄し、よりオリジナリティあふれる特徴的な表現形式に専念し始めた。
その後、ヨーロッパのポストグラフィティアートに関する初の大規模な展覧会であるパリでの「Nusing」やヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレなどで大きな注目を集めた。...

108’s black shapes are hard to compare to anything in the current world. Concise & irregular, they deviate not only from canonical representations, but also from geometrical rigor – the correspondences, instead, are to be found on the immaterial plane of the unconscious. Conceived as the visual manifestation of an inner process which aims to abolish rational thought, these new works diverge from his previous ones, subverting the proportion between irrational & non-irrational components. If in the previous works the dichotomy was less marked and more oriented towards rationality, represented by the perfection of the geometric shapes at times interrupted by colorful elements with an irregular perimeter, now it’s the irrationality of the dark stains prevailing on the colorful rational part, reduced to thin lines which enter the shadow and are almost absorbed by it. The artist adapts and alters the lexicon of geometry to depict what lies beyond the visible. In this case, giving space to transcendent impulses is an attempt to achieve freedom from the subordination to external reality, and in particular to reconcile one’s own duality and release its most instinctive part, at least in the sphere of the intangible. It’s a random and impulsive process which, like everything that concerns 108’s artistic practice, can be assimilated to an intensely intimate ritual. And it’s the natural outcome of this process that the black eventually prevails: after all, painting black is a way of painting plenitude and, at the same time, emptiness. Observing these black shapes, abstract yet organic, incredibly simple & hypnotically repetitive, is for me a modality of aniconic meditation. They hold and reveal a belonging to the earth and its primordial cults, aknowledge rooted in the underworld and, in their essentiality, they connect to the purest state of 
awareness.

La necessità urgente di affermare che uno su tutti in italia ha fatto arte pubblica senza inseguire l’eco delle mode d’oltreoceano, e anzi, l’ha fatta piuttosto ispirandosi a certi altri movimenti diametralmente opposti, nel tempo e nello spazio.
Guido Bisagni, in arte 108, ha fatto cose in una piccola provincia italiana lontana dalle mappe culturali delle capitali. Quando neanche a londra o a parigi, dove con gli stessi medium si perdeva tempo con puppets e altre cazzate, avrebbero potuto spiegare bene di cosa si trattasse, 108 ha abbandonato tutti i giochi figurativi degli altri e ha dipinto forme inedite. Nella sua ricerca orientata alla sintesi perfetta ha addirittura tralasciato il colore, per un momento, mentre inconsapevolmente alzava la qualità dell’arte pubblica italiana ed europea tutta.

è di questo che vorremmo trasmettere una documentazione con “Solstizio d’Inverno”. una mostra organizzata e curata più in veste di fan che di collaboratori.
Presenteremo una nuova serie di lavori su tela, carta e ceramica, l’artista suonerà sotto il nome di LARVA108 e sarà proiettato in anteprima un breve video documentario su 108 girato fra Alessandria e Grottaglie.
Per noi sarà importante farlo proprio da qui, da un’altro piccolo centro lontano dalle attenzioni più superficiali.

There’s an urgent need to declare that one artist in Italy, over all, made public art without following the echo of overseas fashions, and on the contrary, movements far away in time and space inspired him.

Guido Bisagni a.k.a. “108”, worked in a small Italian province, far from culture capitals. While even in London or Paris everybody was wasting time with puppets and stickers, 108 abandoned all the figurative toys of others and started painting unedited shapes.
In his speculation and research for the perfect synthesis he even left behind color without realizing he was raising the bar of Italian and European public art on many levels.

This is what we’d like to say with “Winter Solstice”, which will be a show run and organized by fans rather than collaborators. We’ll be showcasing a new series of canvas paintings, with pieces on paper, prints and ceramic sculptures. The artist will perform under the name of “LARVA 108″ (his noise side project) and, for the first time, we’ll screen a short documentary filmed between Alessandria and Grottaglie, about his work and life.
It is also important to us to make of this city another small center, far from superficial distractions.
